Spotted this at the op shop the other day, and I couldn't leave it lying on the shelf:
Two rolls of lightweight pink ribbing. I guess it's the type that would be used as a trim on t-shirts or similar, but of course I won't be using it for that!
Actually... I'm not entirely sure what I will use it for! My initial thoughts are to crochet it into a rug or a bathmat using a giant hook. But maybe that's a bit obvious?
I'm open to all sorts of suggestions. Any other ideas out there???
My project using muslin ripped into strips is still very much in its initial stages so when I saw your rolls of 'strips' I thought to pass this idea along: if you have a window or door that would be enhanced by a light 'dressing' then you could hang strips on a rod suspended at the top of the door or window and then roll some paper beads up those strips. The strips could be close together or further apart; my muslin with its ripped strips are side by side by side but I could remove every other one or every second one if I want it airier - it's to 'block' the view of a bathroom at end of a hall. And the beads could be random and scant or more patterned and many. I'm planning to use beads made from the heavy colourful paper of advertising supplements. That's my two cents worth. I am sure whatever you come up with will be just dandy - but it was fun to come up with a reply to your query.
ReplyDeleteIf you pop over to my blog you can see my finished Easy Peasy Bag...I just loved making this bag thanks for all your great ideas and keep them coming:-)
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Alison.
2 thoughts. A nice edging for the bags you make. It looks quite wide, could you cut it down the centre, there fore doubling what you have and making it easier to crochet with. Lots of work though. Good luck, I know you'll come up with some thing very crafty.
ReplyDeleteHi purple, I reckon it would make a lovely crocheted basket. Something that you put your bits and pieces in, like keys when you come in the door, or on a dressing table for odds and ends. Done with a giant hook, like you say, it would look so pretty, it's a gorgeous color. xxx (Yarnplay)
ReplyDeletekaren - my daughter would love something along those lines in her bedroom doorway... she loves butterflies, so I'm thinking I could incorporate some of them into it too... good idea :) thanks
ReplyDeleteally - gorgeous!
cat - actually, I could use it to edge one of my rag bags... thinking... thinking... thinking... yes... definitely!!!
michelle - it's very pink... too pink for the decor in my home... BUT... once again... it would be perfect in my daughter's room... everything in there is PINK!
How about making it into basket weave fabric and sewing it up as a purse?
ReplyDeleteislagringo - I'm so glad I asked for ideas... that's another good one I would never have thought of :)
ReplyDeleteCant wait to see what you make! My Gran bought a massive roll of purple elastic once from an Op Shop and then spent the next 15 years using it to re-elasticizing her underpants when they lost their strech... Classy stuff.
ReplyDeletekaty - thanks for sharing that :) what a scream! I'm all for recycling, but I haven't yet taken the step of re- elasticising my old underwear!!! lol... and I probably won't... but what a fabulous story
ReplyDeleteyou need to take price tags off if u gona take pics!!
ReplyDeletebut they were cute
I'm curious to see what you decide because interestingly enough, I found a roll of this at a place in my state called "The Scrap Exchange." My roll is a carnation pink and I'm looking for ways to use it too. Thought about a crochet rug of sorts, but I don't have enough for and I would have for it to be just one color. Humm.....
ReplyDelete*BTW, love your blog!
