Ugh... 43C again yesterday, and to top it all off we had a 10 hour power outage!!! Let's just say that all the perishables in our house have well and truly PERISHED!
But, on to happier things... the resulting yarn from my experimental dyeing...
Do you have a favourite here?
Mine is the green, although I guess the next experiment will be to see how the work up.
Hmmm... knitting or crochet? Decisions, decisions...
your yarns turned out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteOMG!That yarn is so pretty.I love all of them. You did a great job.If I were you I would try to knit with that yarn first and if that doesn't work out I would totally try to crochet.Hope you are well and having a good day.-Leafyberry
ReplyDeletei am such a sucker for purple. it is really beautiful! you are helping me expand my horizons here!
ReplyDeleteThe green is very pretty, but I have to admit I like the purples best.... but, I do have a special love of lavenders and purples, so I may be biased. ;p
ReplyDeleteThey are yummy... I refuse to choose a favourite but I do give my vote to knitting.
ReplyDeleteI have total YARN envy! LOL WOW, great job, love the pink, purple, plummy ones. I may just try this myself.
ReplyDeleteYou're at +43C? Well, we are almost the exact opposite, the other night it was -40C with the wind chill. Brrr ...
Keep laughing and take care,
Julie Andrea

I love the green too but I think my favorite is the multicolored specs on the natural! I love flecks of color in yarn though. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the green the best, too, but it is my second favorite color after blue, so my opinion is slightly biased.
ReplyDeleteI am inspired now to hit some local thrift stores to find old sweaters to dye. What fun! And I bet my kids would love to help.
Well, that was one successful experiment! My favourite is the purple bottom right one - I like the muted shading. 43C and no power - oh, my - I guess the ice cubes and popsicles were part of the perishedees. Would crocheting be cooler than knitting for the time being?
ReplyDeleteI like the purplely shades (but I love all things purplely).
ReplyDeleteThe white with the flicks is really nice too. Well done hon. (and sorry about the 10 hour blackout :( )
Ooh yes the pinky/purple and the green are really gorgeous! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks very nice all of it, but if I had to choose maybe the green would win. Can't wait to see it worked into knitting or crocheting. maybe you could give us a sample of both, just to get our opinions.
ReplyDeleteI think my utter favourites are the purples, but I do love the greens, and the spotted looks very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Judith - swatches so we can give our views, lol!
Can't imagine how you're coping with that kind of weather. And no power? Aarrgh!
At first I would say the greens are my favourite, but I always pick greens, so I'm going to say the last one, because it has some greens in it too. So if you don't want that one, you know where you can send it :)
ReplyDeleteI like the green.
ReplyDeleteWill the wools be washable? I can't help feeling that food colouring will run and turn everything else green as well - or do you hand wash your woollen things as I know you are supposed to do?
And actually, thinking how hard it is to get the red food dye off fingers when the children have been making icing maybe it won't run.
-7 on the ski slopes yesterday. I'm typing this wearing two fleeces and a beret!
Crafty Gadner, that is just what I was thinking!
ReplyDeleteI love the green one and the green/blue on below it, great job!
It's all lovely! If I had to choose, I guess the green...
ReplyDeleteI love all the purple ones!!! actually, looking at my (scanty) stash, I realized I have to steer clear of the pink and purple alleys of the yarn shops! Ok, I have two girls, but I knit for so many others!!!!! love your work! And I instantly imagined a purple and green shrug! love the colors you got!
ReplyDeleteOh, impossible to choose! They are all so lovely. Do you have pics of the sweaters they came from? What fiber are they? Sorry to hear it is so hot, its sucking off the power. That is what happens in the heat in California too, we have brown outs as well. And when its really cold, we get spare the air advisories, prohibiting us from using fireplaces for heat!
ReplyDeleteI vote purples...and I'm so sorry about your weather; it's been about 76 F here. (All told though, it IS Winter in California, so I'd rather have snow...)
ReplyDeleteThe yarns all look lovely, but I like the purple, but then I think I also like the multi colour one. So hard to choose because they are all so lovely!
ReplyDeleteQualcuno di voi parla italiano?io per l'inglese mi aiuto un pò col traduttore,ma non so scrivere a voi in inglese, il lavoro di tintura è splendido, mi dispiace di non avere maglioni usati, qui non li vendono!Buon lavoro! Ileana
ReplyDeleteeveryone - thanks for your beautiful feedback :) much appreciated
ReplyDeletewhatsonox - the theory is that both the vinegar and the heating process will act to set the colour... it seems to have worked so far... I washed them after frogging, and there was only the tiniest smidge of colour left behind in the wash water
I vote for knitting and I love the rose colors!
