!@#$ wind...

We've had some hot and gusty weather through here over the last week. At first I thought it was going to be fabulous 'drying weather' and that I could get some of those many skeins of recycled yarn washed and dried quickly... but I was a bit ambitious...

The winds were wild beyond words. Anything that wasn't nailed down, was picked up by the wind and carried across the yard. And unfortunately, that included my skeins which were happily drying on the line.

wind damage

So, now I have a tangled dusty mess to sort through. I'll have to remove the leaf matter, re-skein them and give them another wash. Oh well...

  1. I'm so sorry!!! Grrrrr...... Here in Western Kansas, last week we had sustained winds of 40 mph and gusts to 60 mph. It got to be 72 degrees, and today it is 7 degrees! I've tried many times to outsmart and harness the prairie winds but...... grrrrrr......

    Glad your back to blogging!!

  3. Oh MAN! What a drag! I did that last week with four new gowns that I had bought at Goodwill. I hung them out on the line and then promptly forgot about them until 4:30 the next morning. Luckily, only one of the gowns was on the grown. However, the wind REALLY aired them out that I was breathing a sigh of relief.

Good luck with the clean up!

  4. that is dreadfull!
I found your blog while searching for scarf patterns, and I love what you are doing! you have inspired me and a friend to try and make as much as we can with recycled materials, and I've already started asking my family for any sweaters they can donate so I can recycle the yarn

  5. Thats just not on, we get gusty winds here to.We live in a valley at the moment and you can hear the wind howling around. When we move into the house we are renovating, we are moving up the mountain, so dear knows what it will be like there. Hope your yarn is not too tangled

  6. mary - thanks... isn't it frightening at times, how intense mother nature can be?

sam - I like your thinking!!!

leslie - ahhh yes... that fine line between a good airing, and being blown to bits :)

ct - wonderful... I'm so excited for you... recycling is so much fun... asking friends and family is definitely the way to go, and people love knowing that you will be making good use of their cast-offs

judith - thanks... just finished sorting it... three skeins were okay... but the fourth one was an absolute challenge

  7. Oh my! Anxiously runs out to check drying skeins of recycled yarn...whew! Everything is okay. Well, San Francisco doesn't get too windy. You know, I am so grateful to have found your blog. It has inspired me to used recycled materials more often. I have 5 sweaters waiting to be frogged! Question: What do you know about freezing yarn to make sure any pests are dead? Is freezing or baking better?

  8. lisab - I haven't needed to use either method... as pests don't seem to be a problem here... well, not YARN pests, anyway... I've heard people talk about freezing the yarn, but as I say, I haven't needed to try it... good luck :)
