finally...

I've been desperately trying to master the technique of hairpin lace... and FINALLY I have the hang of it! Here's a sneak peek at what I have been working on, and I'll share more of the details with you tomorrow.

I would like to block it later today... if I can find the iron!

Mr Goldfish kindly put it away for me the other day, and I can't find it anywhere... wish me luck...

  1. Isn't that funny I have just purchased a hairpin crochet prong to learn myself. Great minds think alike. I have a book too somewhere amongst all this chaos of moving. Will let you know how I get on. Good luck finding the iron, I have a husband like that too..

  2. I just love all your ideas, wish there were more hours in the day to try ALL of them! As a fairly new crafter/quilter/recycler, it's so exciting when I come across new ideas.

  3. Oh neat - looking forward to the appearance on stage (love the 'peek' adverts!) And I wonder if the word "hairpin" implies that it was (is?!) actually done on one of those old timey hairpins. Hmmmm. A dollhouse coverlet perhaps.

  4. Not being in a family that owns any clothes you have to iron I had to buy a iron just to do my first ever lot of blocking (following your instructions of course. Then I realised that because I'd bought it over the border in Switzerland its got the wrong plug on it. Now I need to remember to find out which fuse I need, to write it down and to take it with me next time I go to the big French supermarket so I can buy a plug.
So far it hasn't happened and I've blocked as best I can by just dabbing (we don't own a water spray either - though we do have lots of water pistols) the squares with a wet cloth and pinning them out on the mattress of the spare bed to dry.

It has sort of worked - and I did remember to check the bed for pins before our last lot of guests arrived.

So I'm wishing you better luck in your search for the iron than I had and I can't wait to see what you've made.

  5. It has come out very well but must have been very time consuming, right?
