adorable flutterbye
Little Miss Five has just turned Six.
And to celebrate, I made her this adorable butterfly - in her favourite colour - PURPLE.
The pattern was written by Jacqui Delaney, who is one of the girls from my craft group. I've been keen to try it out for a while now. It's called Flutterbye and is available for sale here.
Did I follow the pattern as written?
No. Of course not.
It didn't actually NEED changing, but I fiddled about with it just a little bit anyway!
Firstly - I turned the whole thing inside out, so that the reverse side of the sc is showing... just because I like it like that...
Then - I worked a bit more detail around the wings.
Plus - I couldn't help but add eyelids... I love eyelids. And a felted heart for the mouth.
Oh - and I didn't stuff the antennae stalks. Because they were worked inside out, there wasn't much room for stuffing... and I thought that they semed stiff enough without it. But the more I handled them, as I stitched them to the head - the softer they became, and they're now quite droopy.
Our favourite part of all is the way the wings wrap around the butterly when it's time for bed.
So snuggly.
Goodnight!
Personally, I find butterflies a bit scary, but this one is really cute! I bet Miss Six loves it. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Little Miss Six! Such a cute butterfly, especially with the wings folded up. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is ADORABLE!!!! Tell her Happy Bday!!!
ReplyDeleteOh it turned out really cute!
ReplyDeleteIt really has your name/style all over it! love the extras you've added!
Hope the pattern was alright to follow (blush)
Help, please, perhaps? With eyelids, that is... I've been admiring your toys for awhile. I'm now making a toy for a friend's baby, which is due any day. I'd love to give it some of those dreamy eyelids, but I don't know how. This little mammal looks too... too... ALERT! Or maybe I should just say, "paranoid" to sit in someone's crib! Could you offer any advise on making crochet eyelids, please?
ReplyDeletesure - I love eyelids!
ReplyDeletechain the length you need to wrap about half way around the eye (that is - half the circumference of your outer eye... Mr Castle, my year 8 maths teacher would be so pleased that I remembbered that!)
row 1. sc into the 2nd chain from hook, then sc in each ch across, turn
row 2. ch1, 2sc in 1st sc, sc across, 2sc in last sc.
this should be enough for your eyelid... though you could work a 3rd row in sc if you wanted.
stitch in place around the eye... I usually stitch down the row ends as well as the beginning chain edge to give the lid shape
I also like to embroider using whip stitch along the outer edge using a contrasting colour, to kind of represent eyelashy things
hope that helps!
BRILLIANT! Thank you! I can't wait to give it a try. =) As a matter of fact, my friend went into labor today, so I had really better get cracking...
