craft market at Hanging Rock...

Helloooooo....

Is anyone out there???

I've been absent from Blogland for such along time now... I'm wondering if there are any readers left out there!

Please stop and leave a comment... that way I know you are still there...

Hanging Rock Market 13/3/11

I feel like my craft mojo has been missing for a long time now, so when I had the opportunity to visit a Craft Market at the weekend... I simply had to say YES!

Hanging Rock Market 13/3/11

It's always inspiring for me to see what fellow crafters are up to... to see, feel and touch their work... and 'ooh' and 'ahh' over the techniques and materials used.

Inevitably, I find myself wanting to learn new skills to add to my repertoire... this time I feel the need to learn welding, so that I can create sculptures from scrap metal!!! But maybe I should work my way through my huge fabric/yarn stash before I start collecting scrap metal too... And I would certainly need some extra storage space...

Meanwhile, what I actually bought was this adorable dress, made from vintage fabric, for Little Miss Six.

It came from the wonderfully talented girls at Fine Little Finches - Kim and Anna. Aren't they clever?

I'll admit to being a little biased - as Kim is friend of mine... but I love their work! Check out the precious shoes they have started making...

I fell in love with this vintage fabric immediately. I'm thinking perhaps it reminds me of a pillow case I had as a child, but there is something really familiar and reassuring about it.

But more importantly, since I've had the dress at home, I keep looking at it... thinking it needs SOMETHING MORE... thinking, thinking, thinking... thinking it needs some kind of EMBELLISHMENT... thinking, thinking, thinking... not quite sure what I'd add to it... perhaps a trim around the sleeves and the hem, or an applique of some kind... maybe just a set of matching hairclips or a headband...

Doesn't really matter which way I go with it... the REALLY EXCITING part was that I was CREATIVELY INSPIRED, and that's been a long time coming!!!

  4. Hi Sharon , glad your mojo is back . Lovely dress but i agree a little embellishment would be great. I'm working on a project using recycled yarn at the moment :0)

  5. I'm still here too, I haven't posted anything in my blog for a long time now- and the last crafting thing I posted was almost 2 years ago.
I think the dress needs a rufflely shug. Either knit, crocheted, or sewn, just a sweet ruffled short sleeve shrug, although now that you are heading into fall a long sleeve might be better.
Can't wait to see what you come up with.

  7. You wouldn't beleve! I have that same fabric here in Croatia, and one with the same pattern but in yellow! It's over 30y.o.,my mother in law had pillow cases made of that fabric and it's no for the use anymore, but it's so pretty to me so I don't wanna throw it.

  10. So happy to see you again!
Adoreable dress! I agree the fabric is enchanting. I don't think it needs embellishment to be lovable, but I can see Miss Six wearing it with a sash and gloves and a wide-brimmed hat for a tea party.
Whatever you come up with will be gorgous, though. It always is!
    Looking forward to it. ?

  11. That dress is lovely. I think what it needs is a little shrug or sweater to go with it. And a cute sun hat.

  15. Hiya fishy. Nice to see you online.

I figured your whole body has been getting creative and that might have slowed you down a little. Maybe you're also still in paid work right now.

Pretty blue dress. Have fun with your embellishing. :)

  17. to me, "art" is the original idea or design or attempt
and "craft" is the exercise needed to keep the ability for art alive ... so i use my craft "perspiration" to find my artistic "inspiration" ... and i integrate them within my life because i don't want to live in a world without fun ... sometimes it's just a momentary thought or 5 minutes of fiddling with something, but it makes my day complete !

  19. So glad to hear a peep from you!

That is a sweet dress, just a lovely colour.

When I was little, dresses like this often had a small length of lace (perhaps six inches) sewn vertically on the top front (under the chin) with 3 or 4 buttons spaced out on it.

Hope you have been feeling well :)

How about a couple big vintage buttons - one on each shoulder as if they are being used

  30. what that dress needs is either one biggish (but simple) statement embellishment right at the chest OR one wide ribbon round the waist for that classic touch...

  32. Yes, still here from Strasbourg, France. It's good to have you back.

  33. Still here in France near Geneva, still crocheting with old T shirts using the joining method you showed me (at least I think it was you), just this last weekend tried knitting with old T shirts because my daughter is learning to knit but now we aren't sure what to do with the rectangle of knitted T shirts. I am a bit worried about your desire to take up welding - a yarn stash is one thing but a welding stash sounds rather like a scrap yard!

  34. Hello there!
    Sharon.
I only recently found your previous blog and am over the moon to see you did NOT disappear in 2010, just moved to a new place.

You are an inspiration young woman!!! I have reclaimed and recycled almost all my crafting, knitting and crocheting life.
Having recently become semi-retired I am revisiting all the wonderful things I did when I was a stay at home Mum in the 70's.
You are resourceful, frugal, and so, so creative.
On top of that you are kind and generous to share your knowledge and skill with all of us VERY lucky people. Thankyou!
