So This is Aubergine...

So This is Aubergine

Okay, okay, okay...

I promise that this is the LAST purple hat for the week!

So This is Aubergine

I'm loving Crab Stitch edgings at the moment... and French Knots are a perennial favourite of mine...

So This is Aubergine

The pattern used is Urban Appeal by Lisa Gentry. It's from a booklet titled Celebrity Slouchy Beanies for the Family.

This is my THIRD version of the Urban Appeal slouchy beanie… so I was prepared for the fact that it would be a little on the large side, and that I would want to add extra increases.

So here’s how I modified the pattern... just in case you ever need to do the same
(PS. I do have a looser than average tension)

Worked pattern instructions for Rnd 1-17

Rnd 18: 2 dc, decrease, * 3 dc, decrease; repeat from * around - 67 dc.

Rnd 19: sc around - 67 sc.

Rnd 20: dc, * 4 dc, decrease; repeat from * around - 56 dc.

Rnds 21-24: as written in pattern

Rnd 25: crab stitch around in contrast colour

And here's a quick peek at the other two projects I made from this pattern:

First one was made back in 2010 using my Crazy Yarn.

P7010028

P7010043

And the second one was made earlier this week, using Scouts Australia colours, as a Chemo Cap for the kid's Cub Leader.

  1. Hello.

I really love your hats. Can I ask a question? How do you crochet with the pom pom wool? The reason i ask is I work in a care home and one of the old ladies I look after passed away and her family gave me her small stash, pom pom yarn included. I would like to make a special blanket to donate to the home made using some of Joyce's wool but have no idea how I can include the weird pom pom stuff!!

    Thank you in advance.

  3. Poppy Cottage...

Have you ever worked with beads? As in strung them onto your yarn and actually worked them into your crochet?

The principle is the same, except that you have no control over when the next 'bead' is coming up.

I only use sc (US) with pom pom yarn. Using the straight section of yarn, insert hook where indicated, yo, pull loop through(as far as you can until the pom pom stops you pulling it through any further), POM POM SITS AT BACK OF YOUR WORK, yo, pull through 2 loops to finish off sc.

If my notes don't make enough sense, try googling a video on beaded crochet - and keep in mind that the pom poms will sit where the beads go.

  5. Wow these are great! In working on this same pattern and I'm havin trouble with the decrease. If I'm doing it right, it seems like its basically two DC in the same stitch, and the same as round 6?? If you could get back to me that would be great!!

I blog too, btw not totally about crochet tho.

    1. the decrease involves working 2 dc together... you kind of do a half stitch followed by a full stitch... here is a link to a photo tutorial, sit with your hook and yarn, and follow it step by step - I think you will be able to follow it easily... good luck, and let me know how you go http://www.crochetspot.com/how-to-crochet-double-crochet-decrease/
