celebration of a life

platelets

Today's post is in memory of my mum... who passed away yesterday after a five year battle with leukemia.

She was a dignified woman, with a great deal of patience, compassion and grace. She was faithful, and giving, and possessed the most amazing strength of spirit. A close friend and confidante. I will miss her dreadfully, in ways I cannot yet imagine.

I am going to take a little bit of breathing space from blog land.

When I return, I will share my pattern for the gorgeous creatures pictured above. Click here to read about their significance.

  6. I lost my dad a year ago and it still feels like it was just yesterday. He was my rock. I can truly understand what you will be going through right now and my heart goes out to you...

This poem brings a sense of peace, especially when I think of those who passed.. May it do the same to you.

Mary Frye's 'Do not Stand at My Grave and Weep'
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

  7. I am so sorry for your loss of your mother. I think it is harder for those left behind than for those who pass away. She will live on in your memories and your children and yourself, and in time those memories will be easier to remember and deal with. Sending lots of hugs to you all.

  16. Let me also express my condolences to you and your family. I lost my dad many years ago and my relationship with mom just got stronger over the years. Her day will come (she turns 87 tomorrow) and I will be sad. But I will try and remember all the happy times we were able to share together.

Wishing you lots of happy memories in your time of grief.
