That's Just Your Mother Being Funny...

Ducks

So, I've got this thing for ducks at the moment.

Ducks

Not Clean White Modern Ducks... But Old Vintage Quirky Ducks...

Ducks

So for Mother's Day this year, Mr Goldfish bought me a set of ducks to hang on the wall in our entry.

Ducks

You know exactly the kind of ducks I mean. EVERYONE had them back in the early 70s... or maybe it was even the late 60s...

They've been hanging in place for a week or so now - without incident - but the other night, Thunder Lizard (that's what Master Ten likes to be called these days) noticed that one of the ducks was hanging upside down.

He figured that it needed attention, so he called on Mr Goldfish to fix it.

And his response?

"No."

"It's probably meant to be like that."

"That's just your Mother being funny... "

Ducks

Indeed, it was NOT just Mother being funny...
the duck had just overbalanced on the nail which supports it!

But it's nice to know that they think so highly of my sense of humour...

My New Clock

Granny Clock

How lucky am I???

This clock was a gift from my dear friend Dawnie-Pants.

Granny Clock

And I've found the perfect spot for it... where I can see it from my desk, every time I glance up while I'm working... and it's ALWAYS crochet o'clock!!!

The AJ Project continues...

So, last week it was a jacket... Remember?

The seams were perfect for separating, and it came apart into pieces beautifully...

Separating the Pieces

The yarn itself is pretty kinky, and I don't expect it to be much straighter after I wash it.

Separating the Pieces

Some people like to add weights to their yarn as it is drying, in order to straighten it out more.

Unravelled

The curls don't really bother me. Plus I tend to think that weighting stretches the yarn, which I'd rather avoid...

Meanwhile, I just look at this pile of kinks and curls, and think MERMAID hair...

Unravelled

Now to give it a good wash and soak.

Ned's Needles

Ned's Needles Sketch

Have you ever knitted or crocheted a BEARD before?

I haven't - but I am about to...

Now before you start thinking that I have completely lost the plot -  I just want to say that I am not the only person to ever attempt this.
In fact, there are PATTERNS out there for knit and crochet beards...

Don't believe me?

Check these ones out...

See?

So what's this beard business all about then?

Well - have you ever heard of a gentleman by the name of Ned Kelly?

My Aussie readers will know that Ned Kelly was a notorious Bush Ranger, who has since become an Australian Legend. But apart from all that - the guy had the most incredible beard.

Which brings us to Ned's Needles.

Ned's Needles is a knitting competition - to create a version of Ned's Beard.

You can aim for something realistic... or venture down a more creative path. Perhaps you've guessed that I will be designing a CREATIVE entry?

The competition is open to everyone, so go and take a closer look. There are even free patterns available for you to use.

Here's the link... so what are you waiting for?
