Flower Headband

Flower Headband

Remember the gorgeous Crochet Jacket which Loren sent for Little Miss Charlie?

Flower Headband

Well... you might also recall that Loren included the leftover yarn, so that I could make a matching headband for the outfit...

Flower Headband

And here it is!

Flower Headband

A simple headband, embellished with a giant flower and little pearl beads at the centre...

Flower Headband

Of course Charlie keeps trying to tear it off her head - just like a typical toddler - but I manged to get a few cutie-pie photos taken!

And one day I might even mange a photo of her wearing the jacket AND the headband at the same time...

Craft Fair

Felted Flower

Last Sunday I went along to the Melbourne Craft and Quilt Fair at the Exhibition Centre.

It's always fun to have company at these things... so I traveled in with some of the girls from work - Julie, Tam, Jo and Mary... and met up with my crochet buddy Annie once we were there.

There's always so much to see and do at these events. Although I'm not a quilter, I still like to look - and imagine that ONE DAY I might be!

Annie and I took part in a felting workshop, where I made this gorgeous flower...

And chatted to the woman next to me about the Craft Cruise she has booked to travel on. How AWESOME would that be? A Craft Cruise! Have you ever been on one?

One of the other COOL things about the Craft Fair was that I got to meet up with Prudence Mapstone (my freeform guru) and also see the Hang Ups Exhibition in person.

Remember the closet monster I made earlier this year for the coathanger exhibition? Well, he was on display at the Craft Fair... along with some VERY SPECTACULAR freeform pieces from around the globe. I tried to take photos to share with you, but with the indoor lighting they just didn't turn out at all well. So you'll just have to take my word for it -
They were EXQUISITE!

Happy Flower Decoration

IMG_4638

I made this Cheery Flower to adorn Little Charlotte's bedroom door...

Happy Flower

The pattern is from Lucy over at Attic24.

Actually, it's more of a photo tutorial than a pattern, so if you're still fairly new to crochet you will love it. Lucy takes you through the project step-by-step with loads of photos, so you just can't go wrong. Here's the link so that you can go and take and peek for yourself.

After you've made the flower, you need to paint the back of it with glue to stiffen it.

Which means that it ends up looking pretty revolting from behind - but it will sit beautifully when you hang it!

Mostly I followed the pattern, with a little improvising at the end!

And now (of course) Young Katie would like a flower for her bedroom door.

Look, she's even drawn me a sketch... where on earth would she have got the idea to do that?

So I'm sort of going to follow her plan... but add a surprise for the centre...

Embellishing gifts

floral gift embellishment 4

Here's an idea for using up those scrap embroidery threads...

You can crochet up some Gorgeous Flowers for jazzing up your gift wraps (I just glue mine in place with a dab of white PVA glue)

Most of the time I'm just a Brown Paper and Raffia girl, but every now and then the occasion calls for a little more zhuzh!
