Flower Headband

Remember the gorgeous Crochet Jacket which Loren sent for Little Miss Charlie?

Well... you might also recall that Loren included the leftover yarn, so that I could make a matching headband for the outfit...

And here it is! 

A simple headband, embellished with a giant flower and little pearl beads at the centre...

Of course Charlie keeps trying to tear it off her head - just like a typical toddler - but I manged to get a few cutie-pie photos taken!

And one day I might even mange a photo of her wearing the jacket AND the headband at the same time...

Shabby Hat

 Look what we found stashed away at the back of the cupboard...



This shabby hat once belonged to Little Miss Katie - but now it's the perfect size for her Little Sister!



It's the perfect hat for those "cold, but not freezing" days...

Surprise!

I got the most lovely surprise in the mail yesterday,

all the way from the other side of the world...

From someone I've never actually met - but feel like I know so well!

If you're a member over on my Ravelry group, then you probably know my friend and moderator Loren (aka Twisted1)

Well, she sent the most adorable little top for My Charlie...

(who was being the Queen Of Uncooperative, and refusing to pose nicely for a photo)

And now she sits still!

Mothers Day Surprise

I don't often talk about my eldest child here on the blog...

He's a Teenage Boy - what funny little creatures they can be!

But I really wanted to share the gift he made me for Mothers Day this year.

I reckon its Pretty Damn Awesome for a 13 year old...

He made it in Woodworking Class at school. 

The instructions were for a simple hinged box, with everything sitting squarely...

But "My Boy" wanted his to look a little different - so he implemented that fabulous curve.

I love that he has a burning need to do things differently than the norm.

Even if it does drive me INSANE at times...

A Proud Mum

Little Miss Katie has been nagging me for such a long time, to be allowed to have an account on Ravelry...

Which I've always found quite amusing - since she didn't actually knit or crochet!

So our deal was, that once she learned to crochet... and finished her first project... she could open a Ravelry account.



Well - here it is - her first crochet project... complete with felted flower embellishment.

I'm so proud of her!



The Little Poppet is only eight years old, and she has done such a fabulous job.

And YES.

She has opened a Ravelry account.

So if you see KittyKroshay over on Ravelry - say hello to her - she's my Little Girl.

Distraction

I've been working on that Male Centaur... but I need to take a break for a bit.

Of all things, it it the chest which is driving me bonkers!

I think that I'm actually trying to do too much with it. Trying to include broad shoulders and a six-pack along with guns to die for... it's all a bit of overkill really, and I need to step back, re-assess and then start afresh...

So I'm distracting myself with a Crochet Today magazine which Cristina left behind after our Crochet Meet yesterday. I had been checking out these slippers during the Meet, and now that the magazine has been left behind... I figure I've got time to make them before returning it at the next get-together in a fortnight!

I love the idea of the double thickness sole and I'm always a bit of a softie for any project which features the Granny Square. That being said, I would like to make it clear that I WILL NOT be making the matching scarf, bag and doggie coat on the front of the magazine!

As you can see, the slippers are fairly simple.

Not sure if they might be a bit too boxy to stay on the feet properly, but I'll test them out and let you know...

Meanwhile, there is a Little Girl sitting here with me waiting patiently for her breakfast.

So it's time to finish up the coffee... put the magazine away... and get back to being a Mum.

That's Just Your Mother Being Funny...

So, I've got this thing for ducks at the moment.

Not Clean White Modern Ducks... But Old Vintage Quirky Ducks...

So for Mother's Day this year, Mr Goldfish bought me a set of ducks to hang on the wall in our entry.

You know exactly the kind of ducks I mean. EVERYONE had them back in the early 70s... or maybe it was even the late 60s...

They've been hanging in place for a week or so now - without incident - but the other night, Thunder Lizard (that's what Master Ten likes to be called these days) noticed that one of the ducks was hanging upside down.

He figured that it needed attention, so he called on Mr Goldfish to fix it.

And his response?

"No."

"It's probably meant to be like that."

"That's just your Mother being funny... "



Indeed, it was NOT just Mother being funny...
the duck had just overbalanced on the nail which supports it!

But it's nice to know that they think so highly of my sense of humour...

Pooped.

I'm feeling a little pooped after all those hats, so I'm resting my fingers for a day...

But young Thunder Lizard (as he likes to call himself) has been busy playing with my Embellish-Knit. Talk about speed french knitting. This toy is AWESOME!

And here is his finished project!

Another Hat Fixed...

I was on such a high after seeing how nicely Yesterday's Hat turned out... that I decided to update another one! Plus, it's the perfect excuse to show off some more photos of Little Miss Charlotte...

 

The Original Hat was a gift from one of my Crochet Buddies. Julie did a beautiful job when she made it, and Charlotte has had a lot of wear out of it.... but it was getting to be that little bit too short to really stay on properly.

 

It really only needed an extra couple of rounds added to it, and I then finished off with a spike stitch in dark purple. I was happy with the new fit, but the look wasn't really inspiring me. You can see from the photo below that it's nice enough - but just a bit too blandish...

 

So I figured it needed an embellishment of some kind. I tried stars and hearts and button clusters, but none were quite right... then I ended up back with the basic flower! 

Plus a button.

And some simple embroidery.

Look - We're nearly walking!

Yes.

I did it!

Charlotte's hat is fixed, as promised.


If you missed my post on Friday - you can take a look here at how small her hat had become - it wasn't even long enough to cover her ears.

(which kind of defeats the purpose of a winter hat, I think)



Anyway, I removed the edging and then added a few more rounds to lengthen the hat... plus a little flower to finish it off.

The whole process took me about an hour - although half that time was just me fluffing around trying to make a decision - so it was probably only about 30 minutes of actual work.

Better than giving the hat away...

And I actually like it more than the original.

Head too Big?

Is my head too big? Or is my hat too small?

Never mind... my brother still LOVES ME...

And Mum promises to FIX my old hat at the weekend! She says it will be so easy to do with crochet. Hopefully she doesn't let herself get distracted (that happens ALL the time).
