Denim Coils...

IMG_1872

Have you seen the crafty Denim Coils around???

They are made using the seams from old denim jeans. You simply cut down either side of the leg seam, then work the strip into a coil - securing with stitches as you go.

People are making them into coasters and trivets... but I have a slightly grander plan!

I'm working on a Denim Coil Rug.

Unfortunately, at this point, most of the work is happening in my imagination... but I have made ONE COIL.

Trouble is, it's only about the size of the lens cap from my camera...

Do you know you can cut these strips easily with an overlocker (serger) without the thread in the needle, makes a great difference in the edges, of course you can also do a 'loopy edge' to help with joining the strips together.

Hey Susanstitches... I don't have an overlocker, but would love to get one soon! There are so many things I would like to try with one... and your suggestion is definitely going on the list - thank you :)

I like this a lot and can see it making a great mat.

Had to laugh at the part about getting things done in your imagination - I don't have the time/energy right now for much crafting, but I do SUCH great things in my mind!
