project #1 - miniature handbag

I have started out on a self-imposed challenge... which will keep me more than busy over the next few weeks!

Lisa Gentry has published a new e-pattern book... called Hooked For 30 Days - 30+ Crochet Designs In 30 Days. Each day she will be adding a new pattern to the book .

Well, I had this crazy idea that I would keep up with her, by creating each project on the day that it comes out.

Sounds insane, right???

Well... it would have been insane if I had started when the first pattern came out...10 days ago, but I didn't...

So I'm going to start now...and try and catch up!

I know... it's beyond insane... especially when you consider ALL the other projects I have going on at the moment. But cheer me on anyway!!!

Here's the first project:

miniature purse

pattern used:
materials used:
  • pattern calls for size 10 crochet cotton... but I wanted to use what I had on hand, so I used size 20 crochet cotton and a fine recycled ribbon type yarn, and just worked them together yarn choice
  • also needed about 400 beads... all from my recycled stash beads
hook used -
  • 1.5mm
thoughts -
  • it took me forever to thread all those beads on, but I love the result threaded beads
  • in fact, it probably took me longer to make this miniature bag, than it would have taken to make a full-scale one in hand
  • pattern is well written and easy to follow
  • I had orginally planned to put a small lining into the bag, but the stitches sit so tightly together, that it doesn't need one
  • I love the way this piece turned out... although I'm not entirely certain what I will use it for

Oh my gosh, that is so darn cute!!!
I often find that anything I scale down to miniature takes me twice as long as the equivalent bigger project.
I'll cheer you on, GO PURPLE GO, hope you catch up and I can't wait to see what comes next.

My jaw dropped! Literally! It is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!!!! Every thing you make is more beautiful than the previous, but this is a class of its own.

As for your challenge, write me down as a supporter!

That's absolutely stunning! What a beautiful little bag! I don't know what I'd use it for, either, but maybe if it had a wrist-strap that joined the two ends in one corner it would make a good round-the-wrist purse for when I'm out dancing.

Now you have me tempted to start following along with this 30 patterns thing also. I'm looking forward to how the rest of your projects come out.

Wow, it would be less insane if the projects were less complex, but these are detailed !! However I know you can do it !!!! I think we'll all be watching with great enthusiasm. A big mexican wave from me ! Stra xxx

Beautiful! I want one now!

I think it would make a super cion purse. Nothing like a bit of luxury where one least expects it!

Cheer! Cheer! Cheer! And I love how you 'individualize'. I'd hang that bag on the door knob and let it shout out its potential to all who 'to and 'fro.

How fun is that! I don't think I have that many leftover or recycled beads - you must have a wonderful stash of goodies! I think I'll have to go do yet another pdf download for my 'to do' list :-) Well, I'll let you get to your crocheting, you have a lot to do!

OMGoodness! I envy your skill and creativity. This is absolutely beautiful, as are all your projects. You really have an eye for beauty. I would just hang it on the wall as artwork.
Looking forward to seeing all 30 projects!
