a new toy...

It's not that long ago that I was singing the praises of the humble cardboard tube, and declaring that I would absolutely not be investing money in a ball winder. But look what we have here...

winder - dawn

In my defence... I didn't actually buy this little gem. It was given to me by a very generous fellow crocheter Dawniedear. At first I was a little reluctant to use it - after all, I had a perfectly good winding system in place already. But once I started, I couldn't stop. I love it!

So my verdict is this... If I only had one or two balls to wind, then I would probably just use my cardboard tube. But if I was winding a whole garment worth of yarn, I would certainly employ the winder.

Or I could just leave the winder attached to the end of my buffet as it is in the photo... and use it ANY TIME I FANCY... if only I could get the children to leave it alone! I don't like my chances!

Thank you so much Dawn. I will cherish my 'new' toy.

I've had mine for about two weeks, and I've had a similar experience. I found myself winding yarn that didn't need winding just to use it !! So much fun. How lovely of Dawniedear to give it to you. She is a gem.

I resisted getting one for year since I couldn't convince myself it was worth the expense. but I got mine last year with a 50% off coupon at AC Moore craft store, I LOVE it and I'm so glad I got it. I use it all the time.Totally makes using hanks and half used skeins of yarn a joy!

Your sooo lucky. I't seems like it takes me forever to wind yarn. So I have a paper towel thingy and now thats how I do it. You Luckey Girl. Someday i will get one. Thanks for the paper towel thingy.

trish - I can't believe how addictive it is... I'm sure that the novelty will probably wear off eventually... but in the meantime, I'm crazy for it!

sherryknit - hang in there honey... the cardboard tube makes an excellent winder... you will get faster with it the more you practise

it is called a yarn winder (or wool winder)... this one is made by EMPIRAL... I know many people who have picked up their winders at a good price on eBay... good luck
