I spotted this belt at an op shop earlier this year, and fell in love with it immediately. I knew I wanted to use it on a bag at some stage, either as a trim around the top, or as a strap. But no matter how many different bags I tried it on... it just didn't sit right!
But now I have found the perfect use for it. Remember my plarn bag? I was so annoyed when the loopy trim stretched. I had removed it, but been at a bit of a loss as to where to go next. Then I spotted the denim belt again... just the right length for the strap.
So I added a simple navy cotton picot trim to the plarn, attached the belt and lined it with denim from an old pair of jeans.
I love it now more than ever before. It's my everyday bag, and is so much more 'ME' now than it was before. Yay!

Purple! Looks great, we must think so much alike at times, I am in the process of making a rag bag and I have chosen a belt for it's handle!!!!! I rescued it from my rubbish bin the other day, daughter #5 was throwing it away.

I love the idea of using a belt for a strap. Did you already have it lined with denim or did you do that after you decided to use the belt? (trying to probe the creative mind). The most exciting part about reading this post though is that you posted it tomorrow. (it is only Tuesday the 16th @ 2130 here in Florida, US) I felt like I was time traveling

jini - many of my bags have become gifts, and I am accumulating rather a lot for personal use too! But I do so love making them, so I will definitely look at selling
mysknitteri - I can get my head around the time differences... it's the seasonal ones that get me - makes you really aware of the vast physical distances between us all
in this instance, I selected the lining after choosing the handle... but sometimes I choose the lining first, and then base my yarn choices around that... I'm a bit "whatever works" about the whole process!

What a treasure of a find, that belt - and it is perfect on the bag. I like how it all comes together - the blue lining, picot edge, plarn and belt: satisfying. And I too am intrigued by the time difference being even 'earlier' out here on the west coast of Canada. And I also wondered what you did with your bags.
A 'full' post! PS I am looking out at a one-day-past-full moon in the west here (sky in east is tinging red, sun soonest appearing) and wherever we are we are looking at the same sun and moon which is some sort of global communityfying.

stramenda - things always look a little bit different when you see them in real life, don't they? I'm so pleased to have my EVERYDAY bag back in action again... I didn't realise how much I missed it!
I really like the plarn bag. I'm probably going to have to make a few of my own, since I have bags filled with bags lying around my apartment. It'll save them from ending up in a landfill, and heck, reusable bags are always good things to have around!

instead of yarn, I have used plastic bags (supermarket bags, bread bags, etc) which were cut into strips and then spun
